History and memory
“St. Kliment Ohridski” 1997 Community Centre is a space for memory and history. Let us not forget where we came from! Every town, every village, every family, every person has a cultural memory that is preserved through oral memories and legends. These are the stories of its streets and neighbourhoods, of its greatest but also of its most ordinary inhabitants. Of its holidays, but also of its everyday life. As a metropolitan city, Sofia has a rich and varied memory, but it is disappearing – because society and the institutions of memory such as the museums, galleries, libraries and universities mostly concentrate on the big story, while the many personal, family, ancestral stories remain neglected, hidden, disappearing. ‘Night of Stories’ is an attempt to tell and preserve the memory of Sofia – through its diverse, alternative narratives.
The first edition of “Night of Stories” took place in Sofia on 22 May 2019 with the participation of poets and writers.
